Q. How do I create an account?

A. Easy. To create an account

  1. Click the Log in/create account link on the top right corner.
  2. Choose to create an account.
  3. Type in a username, password, and valid email address.
  4. Click the Create account link when finished.

Q. How do I create/edit my profile?

A. Click on your username at the top right portion of any page while logged in. Or Click Template:CURRENTUSER&action=edit here. The User page for your username pops up. If you visit it the first time, you are prompted with the message:

There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, search the related logs, or edit this page.

Click on edit this page.

Q. How do I create a page?

A. If the page relates to a project currently under development, then the page has to be created in the project's name space. See How do I create a wiki page for my project in the Project Documenters section.

Q. How do I add/change content in an existing page?

A. Easy, just search for the page you want to edit. Use Browse Categories or All Pages to find the page of interest. Select the 'edit' tab or click on the 'edit' link of a specific article.

Q. How do I link to another page?

A. Links used in a wiki are called wikilinks. There are four types of wikilinks. See MediaWiki Links. The links you'll be using the most are internal links and external links.

  • An internal link to a page in the wiki in which you write uses the name of the page within .
  • An external link to page somewhere on a site is either the URL itself of that page or, within [ ] you write the URL
    • Displayed Text = Displayed Text

followed by a white-space and the the name you want to be displayed.

Q. How do I set an anchor (or bookmark) in the page I'm editing?

A. You cannot use the HTML <a> tag in MediaWiki, so one cannot use <a name="link here">. Use instead the "id" HTML attribute with almost any existing tag. Most frequently used tags are div and span. Examples of setting up anchors are:

  • <div id="link-here">text</div>
  • <div id="link-here" />text
  • <span id="link-here">text</span> (for inline use in bulleted lists).

Use "link-here" string in the wikilink that references the particular portion of the page that has "link-here" as id. See guidelines below for how to write a reference to an anchor in a pager.

Q. How do I reference an anchor set up in a wiki page?

A. Inside a regular wikilink include the hash sign (#) and the name or the id tag name you used for the text you want to reference.

For example, if "DONATE:Timeline" is the name of the wiki page where an anchor is, and "P1" is the name of the anchor, then you write:

  • DONATE:Timeline#P1.

If the anchor is in the same page where the reference is, then you write:

  • #P1.

If you want to change the name of the reference, then use:

  • Project Proposal

Q. How do I sign a discussion page article?

A. Simply place four Tildes anywhere you'd like to create a signature ~~~~ This looks like C.Reekie, Admin 20:15, 4 November 2010 (UTC). To change your signature go to your user preferences page Otherwise your default signature will be Template:CURRENTUSER

Q. What are some useful pages I can use to learn more?

A. The most useful page is the special pages, from here you can change your preferences, Get a list of all pages or Categories.
